Located on the scenic North Shore of Lake Superior in the town of Grand Marais, Minnesota, the Angry Trout Cafe is a small indoor/outdoor restaurant cobbled together out of an old commercial fishing shanty that clings to the edge of Grand Marais Harbor. From this beautiful setting we offer a menu based on the bounty of Lake Superior and the surrounding region – locally-grown produce, hand-harvested wild rice, and of course, our specialty, fresh Lake Superior fish.
The Angry Trout Cafe is committed to operating in accordance with the concept of sustainability, striving to have a positive effect on our community economically, socially, and environmentally. A little history.... We have owned and operated Carried Away since November 1989. We prepare restaurant-quality food for both take out and in-store dining using primarily organic, locally grown ingredients. We also offer catering services on a take-out basis, for delivery or full service.
Flying Squirrel Bakery Café is a deli-style eatery located in Talkeetna, Alaska serving all kinds of delicious sweets and hearty, wholesome foods for eat-in or take-out throughout the morning, afternoon and evening. A variety of pastries, freshly baked brick oven breads and creative savory items are available to locals and visitors year round. Northstar Cafe is located near downtown in one of Columbus' most exciting and progressive neighborhoods, The Short North. The cafe purchases as many locally grown and organic ingredients as possible.
Folks with food allergies and chemical sensitivities are ecstatic to find out about us since we use certified organic ingredients and no artificial anything. Most of our recipes do not contain any nuts but identify them in the menu when they do. Our pies typically do make use of our delicious Almond Date Crust. Since opening to the public we have never had a serious incident of reaction to any foods here by an individual with food allergies or chemical sensitivities.
Our desserts are truly spectacular. No sugar, concentrated or artificial sweeteners are ever used. Our pies are typically made with a crust of simply Pecan & Dates or Raisin. No wheat, other flour or dairy is ever used. The fresh fruit fillings are enhanced with perfect spices, like fresh cinnamon, cardamom, vanilla and ginger. We make creamy toppings by whipping cashew or almonds with vanilla, dates, figs, apricots or berries. Our favorite new topping is sweet young coconut water, coconut meat and dates blended creamy. Our cookies and brownies are made with rich home-made nut butters, fresh and dried fruits, spices and sometimes feature our raw carob powder. Dense in nutrients, these desserts are filling and not only guilt-free but nourishing for you. They are true "power bars", as they are typically rich in raw, utilizable protein and essential fatty-acids.
We strive to offer the widest array of food sourced from local, clean and sustainable farms and producers. Most of the producers work within a few miles of where you sit. This ensures that the food you get is fresh, ripe when picked and only minutes traveling time from where it is produced. This also means we know the people who make your food and we trust them to bring us the best product.
Flavor comes from how long produce is allowed to grow on the vine, how a cheese is aged and how long, what cows eat and how they are treated, under what conditions chickens are allowed to mature. When you insist on local, organic and sustainable food you are also getting food that has been grown and produced with great care. The wheat for the bread is milled at the bakery, the coffee is roasted in a single roaster under constant supervision and your beer is brewed in a small, artisan brewery in Ballard.
